let's start. well, how bout first with Recap Martin's iPod Selections of the Day! today, i was just listening to songs that started with the letter F. i started at "FL" in order to find the Frontline talk on giving (excellent by the way... and if you are trying to listen to something interesting at work, by all means, here are part 1 and part 2 titled "more or less") that i was trying to listen to. from there, it was all downhill.
flake - jack johnson
flake acoustic -jack johnson
flamboyant - big l (a song by an artist i never listen to that i got from the itunes apple students facebook group. now all these songs just litter my shuffle...huge mistake)
flashdance... what a feeling (irene cara... another itunes facebook group delight)
a flat- staind
flat top - goo goo dolls
flavor of the week - american hi-fi
flo - smashmouth
flossin' at lawson - bs 2000
flower tattoo - w's
you get the idea. i quickly got tired of hearing 2-3 versions of the same song (acoustic, live, duplicates due to compilations and actual albums uploaded) so i stopped listening to music altogether.
after work i went to meet up with my friend robbie for dinner. first, a little backstory:
when i bought my jeep, the seller said that the top was on it's way out. naturally, i assumed this meant, proceed with caution, but you've still got a lot of life left. well, sure enough, last week, dave and i are putting it on before a rainstorm after church and part of the front seam tears along the top of the windshield as we attach it. i thought i had solved this problem with a little tape 2 nights ago.
apparently not. i was on the highway driving to the olive garden to meet robbie and all the sudden... BAM! -- the seam along the windshield tore and the front half of the top (the part that covers the driver and passenger) flung backwards. luckily it was still attached along the center roll bar, so it really just looked liked i had a ghetto version of the jeep sunrider top... but perhaps not to those who saw the front strip of vinyl shatter and fling through the air, followed by the huge tan canvas top.
no harm no foul though. got to dinner -- well, actually i dropped the jeep off next door right beforehand at best buy to have my cd player installed while we ate. i put the top down completely so as to avoid the roofing problem for a while.
dinner was great. catching up with robbie was great. i used to work under him last year. he was the director of the youth group i helped out at. we got together to catch up and catching up we did.
after dinner i got my jeep back from best buy and christened the new cd player with the new Muse cd. hopped into wal-mart really quick, swapped alarm clocks for one that's louder (i have this ridiculous problem where i can't hear the two alarm clocks that i set on both sides of my head... do they make ones for musicians?), got some propel and some haribo gummy bears and i was set for a beautiful night ride home with the top off.
i got almost all the way back and realized i had promised my dad i'd drop by and pick up a few things that i had stored over there. U-turn!
i mainly only had two things to get. a pair of speakers, and a toaster that i had in a box (we are in desperate need of a replacement). man o man did i get more than i bargained for. i ended up bringing home the stuff i came for, along with a stereo receive, turntable, a vcr, and a briefcase full of fireworks. that's another story for another time though.
i think the most important thing i found in my boxes of junk, were these stacks of cd's i totally forgot about. my friend Tom had given me a huge bag of old cd's he didn't want anymore that he was just going to throw out when we moved out of the fairfax house. naturally my pack-rattish self agreed to give them a home, so i just put them away. i was going to use them for some sort of art project cause many of them, i thought, were scratched, though i also thought it would be a waste to just get rid of such a perfect snapshot of our high school and early college days, musically speaking that is.
regardless, i was able to salvage some albums of mine that had gotten mixed up with those... ones i swore i'd lost forever. it was great to be reunited with Dookie after so long.
what DIDN'T i find in that CD bag?
old cd's...
cd-roms for windows 95.
free cd's... (notice the progression of AOL's desperation)
lastly, what old box of stuff is complete without...
that's right! pogs! gooood times. it really was a gold mine.
well, i got the car packed up and headed home. put my bikini top on the jeep and we'll hope for the best with these thunderstorms predicted towards the end of the week. it's a jeep... it'll survive!
to top the night off, as i was walking around to the backyard i stabbed my foot on this nasty little weed that is growing on our back path. it's got thorns like woah. i think it's something like this. i literally have a small puncture wound on my foot from it.
well, i'm up way too late. but there is my wednesday, and i will say, it was most enjoyable!
Martin
