so i've been waiting patiently for my jeep top to arrive since last wednesday night. like clockwork with these sort of things, i log in last night to track my order which should have arrived yesterday to find that my card was declined. Quadratech (and i'm not going to link to their site, cause all that is going to do is make Google think they're more important and give them better ranking in the search results and right now they have yet to amaze me or say they're sorry for what i'm about to explain) declined my credit card for whatever reason and didn't contact me in any way to try and get another form of payment. i just logged in last night (the night after the day it was supposed to have arrived) and it wasn't until then that i realized that absolutely nothing had happened from the time of order to the time it was supposed to have arrived.
super. i've been dodging rainstorms for a week trying to get-by, and for nothing! the dude who i spoke with, was nice and completely un-sales-savvy, and made me lead the entire conversation. we ended up agreeing that it would be shipped today and arrive tomorrow. whatever! i'll believe it when i see it. i'm not even positive this guy had plans to put my order through. it sounded more like he was concerned with whether or not he'd find the an ace of spades in the game of solitaire he had to have been playing.
anyways, i've been enjoying the beginning of my day off. i slept til 9. which was nice, and was able to watch a movie last night because i could sleep in. i watched blood diamond.
the movie was so good. i liked it because i felt like it did a good job of calling up some issues on the topic of conflict diamonds. i think they succeeded in portraying to a very unaware american nation how little we actually seem to know and care about problems in the world like this.
a pretty powerful quote came from the reporter Maddy Bowen, "You might catch a minute of this on CNN somewhere between sports and weather," referring to a refugee camp they came across that was holding millions of displaced African families. seriously, if you haven't seen the movie, or especially been to Africa, that quote still can't mean the same thing. there's just something about seeing the hell some of these people face in their life here on earth to understand how impactful an entire countryside filled with refugee tents really is.
sure, blood diamond is laced with major political themes. if you have to have a gigantic rock to commemorate your engagement, you might want to stay away from this one. it is the super-size me of the diamond industry.
at the same time, good, because how else is our diamond blinded country going to notice the world we're ignoring unless we tape it to the insides of people's eyelids... aka television?
i don't mean to rant... well, yeah i guess i do. it is my blog after all. i think what i do mean to say, is that people need to pay more attention to the whole world, and not just our world.
off to warped tour i go! but not without some quality elevation burger first.
